The Walk That Changed Everything
Four miles. That’s how far 8-year-old Etiowo walked daily through dangerous terrain—just to collect contaminated water for his family. His story is why we organize life-saving walkathon fundraising events, where every step raises money for clean water solutions
One day, a young Fr. Godwin, native to Nigeria and now founder of ImaBridge Africa, had the opportunity to join them on that walk. It was a chance to understand firsthand what so many in his village endured.
A Journey No Child Should Walk
But what started as an ordinary day turned into a heartbreaking memory that would shape his life forever.
As Etiowo reached the steep, muddy bank to collect water, he lost his footing and slipped into the stream. Despite the cries and desperate efforts of the children around him, he drowned before their eyes—a tragedy that no child should ever have to witness.
Fr. Godwin has never forgotten that day. The pain, the helplessness, and the loss of young Etiowo became a permanent imprint on his heart—a reminder of the silent suffering caused by something as basic as the lack of clean water. That moment became a turning point.
“That day, I promised no child would risk their life for water again,” Fr. Godwin recalls
How Walkathon Fundraising Transforms Lives
Today, through ImaBridge Africa initiatives like charity walkathons like ours:
✅ The very village where Etiowo died now has a solar-powered borehole
✅ IBA has drilled twelve wells (Boreholes) in local communities.
✅ Children spend their days in school—not walking for survival.
What began with the loss of one precious life has grown into a mission of compassion, dignity, and hope, now reaching tens of thousands of families.
Why Your Steps Matter
Water is life—but in many rural African communities, accessing clean water means walking miles, often daily. Together, we’re walking to raise awareness, lift burdens, and open the tap to new life, through solar-powered boreholes that serve thousands in rural villages.
Let's Honour Etiowo's Memory With Action
Every $50 raised at our walkathon provides clean water for one family for life.
